Europe 2005 Prayers in Sofia

Sophia, Bulgaria is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with some estimates of its founding going back to 5,000 B.C. The town walls date back to around 700 B.C. At one time, the Thracian city was ruled by Phillip of Macedon and his son, Alexander the Great. The building behind me in the picture is the Alexander Nevski cathedral, an imposing Orthodox church, which is one of the largest in the world, capable of holding upwards of 5,000 people. 11/2005
