The Jersey War Tunnels are tunnels which were constructed on the Channel Island of Jersey. The were constructed by the Germans in World War II to serve as a bomb shelter and to serve as a local hospital for the Germans who occupied the Channel Islands for the years from 1940 to 1945. Today the Jersey War Tunnels are a museum and a vivid reminder of what war can be like. The museum not only tells a story of WWII as a event to be remembered, but also tells the story of what it was like to be a resident of the island and to be under the occupation of the German army. To me, the story of Jersey is a microcosm of what it must have been like to be a civilian in an occupied area anywhere in any time of war. 10/2005
